On June 16, 2026, Can Tho hosted the closing workshop of the project "Establishing a Test Facility for Environmentally Friendly Watercraft in the Mekong Delta" under the KOICA CTS Seed 1 Program, led by Pharos Marine (Korea). The Can Tho Center for Application of Scientific and Technological Advances coordinated local connection, trial support, training, and technology-transfer activities. One of the project's outstanding results was the transfer of electric motor technology for watercraft between Pharos Marine and beneficiary cooperatives and individuals in Can Tho City. Through the program, 100 outboard electric motors, together with battery systems and supporting equipment, were handed over to organizations and individuals participating in the pilot model.

The transfer went beyond equipment provision and included operation training, maintenance guidance, technical support, and assessment of application effectiveness under real conditions. This complete technology-transfer process helps users gradually access, master, and effectively exploit new technology.

The successful receipt and operation of electric motor systems on watercraft demonstrates the effectiveness of international cooperation in science, technology, and innovation. It also contributes to green transformation and the application of advanced technology in waterway transport in the Mekong Delta.

Through the project, the Can Tho Center for Application of Scientific and Technological Advances has promoted its role as a bridge between international technology enterprises and localities in transferring and applying scientific and technological progress. Testing electric motor technology on watercraft not only helps evaluate the practical effectiveness of the solution but also lays the groundwork for green-technology application models serving economic development and environmental protection. The activity also practically supports Can Tho City's digital and green transformation programs toward building a modern, ecological city adaptive to climate change.

Initial project results show that electric motor technology has strong potential for broad application in inland waterway transport, eco-tourism, and small-scale water transport. This is an important basis for management agencies, enterprises, and localities to continue researching, refining support mechanisms, and expanding the model. In the next phase, the Can Tho Center for Application of Scientific and Technological Advances will continue strengthening cooperation with domestic and international organizations and enterprises to seek, receive, and transfer advanced technologies; build demonstration and pilot models; and scale effective science and technology solutions, contributing to the realization of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation goals in the city.
